Betting On You (Always a Bridesmaid), by  Jessie Evans

betting on your romance novel reviewHe’d always bet on her, always…

Lark March is over Mason Stewart, so over him she’s practically forgotten the cruel way he ended things four years ago. At least that’s what she’s told her sisters… But when Mason shows up at her best friend’s wedding, talking sweet and looking even sweeter, Lark can’t deny the man still gets to her in a major way.

Mason Stewart was a messed up kid, but he’s a man now, a man who knows what he wants and won’t stop until he’s convinced the only woman he’s ever loved that they are meant to be. He persuades Lark to give him seven days to remind her why they belong together. At the week’s end, Lark may tell him to get out of her life for good, but Mason’s betting on true love for the win.

But when old secrets come to light, Lark and Mason will find their rediscovered love tested, and happily ever after harder to hold on to than either of them wagered.

*Author’s Note: This is not a sweet romance. The characters are sweet, good people, but they are also people who believe in having sex before marriage–good sex, that includes typical romance novel descriptions of nookie.*

Fans of Bella Andre, Kristan Higgins, and Susan Mallery will love the Always a Bridesmaid romance series, stories featuring sassy Southern women and the alpha males who love them.

About the Author
Jessie Evans gave up a career as an international woman of mystery to write the sassy, Southern romances she always wanted to read. She’s married to the man of her dreams, and together they’re raising a few adorable, mischievous children in a tree house in the boonies. She grew up in rural Arkansas, spending summers running wild, being chewed by chiggers, and now appreciates her home in a chigger-free part of the world even more. When she’s not writing, Jessie enjoys playing her dulcimer (badly), sewing the worlds ugliest quilts to give to her friends, going for bike rides with her house full of boys, and wandering the woods, glass of wine and camera both in hand, on the lookout for Bigfoot. A southern girl, born and bred, Jessie loves writing Southern romances with just the right amount of sizzle, and hopes you’ll enjoy her stories set in the fictional town of Summerville, Georgia.

REVIEW:
I really wanted to like this one. Seem like it had great possibilities for a good story but… It starts off with the heroine being the victim of a bad breakup. For 4 years her heart has been broken, her life is over, no one will ever love her, she can never trust again, blah, blah, blah. Good grief, move on and do something constructive.

Everybody hates the “bad guy”, her family hates him, she hates him, etc. But he shows up back in town and wants to explain to her why he did what he did. All of his reasons make sense. He has been in therapy trying to work through his issues, etc. Why is it that every male is suppose to be perfect in every way and does exactly as the heroine thinks he should in order to “make” her happy? I don’t get it.

Whine, whine, whine. I got sick of the heroine before they went out on a first date that she agreed to have an open mind, give them a second chance, etc. She starts off with a bad attitude, mad at him still….after 4 frigging years??? Come on. How long are you going to hold a grudge and hate someone. Does she feel any responsibility for any of it? I got sick of her and quit reading. Staying mad for over 4 years does no one any good.

And then the divorced sister. Good grief. She actually hates everyone including herself. I have no idea what her story is but she is full of advice for the heroine. Telling the hero to have her back by 10 from their date. Now this girl is over 24 and she needs a sister to tell her to be home by 10? R. U. Kidding me? What a spineless jelly fish she is. I had to quit reading it was ruining my day. I never got to the steamy parts. However, the hero sure seemed like one that could make that work. I liked him. This one was not for me.
