A Date with Fate (The Adventures of Anabel Axelrod), by Tracy Ellen

date with fate book review

Hold on! This book is not your traditional romance wrapped up in a nice box and tied with a HEA pretty bow!

A Date with Fate is the roller coaster ride of a debut novel by Tracy Ellen, and the first volume in The Adventures of Anabel Axelrod ongoing series. Experience action, sex, romance, wit, mystery, mayhem, friends, family, fantasies, flashbacks, lots of laughter, and an “OMG!” cliffhanger ending—all in one wild weekend!

Meet Anabel Axelrod…Smart, Sassy, and Sexy!
Anabel owns a bookstore in the town she’s lived in all her life. She is a girly-girl, she is a control freak, and she is one determined woman. Determined to not fall in love!

Meet Luke Drake…Brains, Bad, and Built!
Luke is new in town. He is all man, control is his middle name, and he’s coolly determined. Determined to win Anabel!

Eyes clash, sparks fly, and worlds collide when these two meet, but that’s the least of their worries! Many strange things are happening in the town of Northfield, Minnesota and the blonde bookseller is a magnet for trouble. Anabel’s perfectly uncomplicated life is suddenly turned chaotically upside down with problems. Although, her biggest problem is the not-too-tall, deliciously dark, definitely not handsome, but intriguingly hot Luke Drake.

Will Anabel learn that sometimes fate leaves us no choices, some rules are meant to be broken, and a certain mesmerizing complication may be worth the trouble–even if it kills her?

Courted by Karma (Vol. II) and In Love by Design (Vol. III) in The Adventures of Anabel Axelrod series are also available for purchase on amazon.com. (The series should be read in order for the optimum reading experience.)

About the Author
Meet Tracy Ellen… I was born in Indiana to middle-class parents, the third out of five hellions. I often used my supernatural powers to force my family members to listen to me talk and tell stories. When that tough crowd laughed of their own free will, I knew the world would someday, somehow be my stage. I’ve lived in the Midwest my whole life–in a small town, on a farm, and in the big city. Currently, I live in the ‘burbs of St Paul, Mn. with my family. I’m married and still tormenting the man I started stalking at age seventeen. Luckily, I’m speaking about the same man. The historical town of Northfield featured in Anabel’s Adventures is just down the road a jaunt. I like writing about the values and independent spirits of people found in small town living, but with a definitely modern twist. I hope you enjoy my books. Thanking you for checking me out. I love connecting with readers and other indie authors. Comments, posts, emails, and reviews are always welcome. Follow me! Twitter: TracyEllen01

I can’t honestly remember the last time I laughed so much while reading a book. The author has a great sense of humor which she generously passed to the main character. And what a character Anabel Axelrod is! She is bright, tough, independent, hardworking, and sexy–five feet of a fiery woman. She is also a smart mouth, she lives life on her own terms and is not afraid to stand up for what she believes in and to act accordingly. And did I mention that she is very, very funny?

The story is told from the heroine’s own perspective. It takes place in the course of a weekend but is fairly long due to Anabel’s comments, thoughts, and opinions on anything and everything as well as her constant flashbacks that help us flesh out the heroine’s backstory and give us insight into the characters. Don’t get me wrong; Anabel’s mind is a well of practical knowledge and crazy ideas, so there is not a dull moment in the whole book.

I loved Anabel’s character and her adventures so much that by the third chapter I knew that I would want to buy all the books in the series. However, when I finished the book, I was more frustrated than satisfied. It ends so abruptly and leaves so many loose ends untied and important questions unanswered, that I have no choice now but to buy the next book. I don’t have anything against series of books, especially if I like the characters. But I want each book in a series to be a stand-alone piece as well, so I can choose which and how many books to buy. Unfortunately, as I said earlier, there is no choice here. For that reason, I am only giving A Date with Fate a three-star rating. I am truly sorry to do so; had it had a different ending (any ending at all, for that matter), it would have been a five-star read for me.
